Chris is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance where he teaches and supervises students in the area of management accounting. Chris completed his PhD in the Department of Accounting and Finance in 2007. He also holds Masters degrees from the University of New South Wales (Australia) and Kobe University (Japan).

Chris's research focuses on the use of management control in organisations. This includes the use of management control during the product development process, product development decision making, open innovation, sustainability and in high growth firms. He is also involved in collaborative research projects related to management control theory. Chris uses theoretical perspectives from both sociology and economics in his research. His main theoretical perspective, practice theory, comes from sociology but he has also used transaction cost economics and actor-network theory.

Chris has developed a close relationship with the management accounting community in Japan. He is a member of the Japan Association of Management Accounting and has been an invited speaker at many conferences and workshops. He has also held visiting positions at Ritsumeikan University (2009) and Kansai University (2012).

Chris has published his research in Accounting and Finance, Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management, ICFAI Journal of Knowledge Management, Melco Journal of Management Accounting Research and the Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change. He is currently the Guest Editor of a Special Issue on Japanese Management Accounting Change for the “Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change” with Professor Yutaka Kato (Doshisha University).
