Darl is a pioneering theorist on social and technical connectivity and has published articles on states of connectivity, the metaphor of connectivity and 'requisite connectivity'. He is currently studying the links between connectivity and performance in distributed work teams in global firms and supervises research on how much connectivity is necessary and/or optimal in a variety of work and social contexts. Darl discusses connects and disconnects in contemporary life on his blog, Connectivity Corner and on Facebook.

He serves as Senior Editor of the University of Auckland Business Review. As an Academic Facilitator for business growth and export programmes at the ICEHOUSE, he has co-authored and edited a popular book on business growth, called Changing Gears (Auckland University Press). Darl teaches "Managing Organisations and People" (BUSADMIN 771) in the Executive MBA, a graduate Special Topic course (MGMT 725) on "Globally Distributed Work" and an award-winning undergraduate course called "Management in Action," using on-line business simulations (MGMT 300).
