Michael Gedye BCom, LLB, MCL
Mike is a Professor in Commercial Law and a consultant to a number of New Zealand law firms and government and business organisations. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of finance law (particularly personal property securities), investment and securities law, insolvency law and practice, and contract law. He is author of Personal Property Securities: Consolidated Legislation and Analysis (Brookers 2001) and co-author of The Law of Company Receiverships in New Zealand and Australia (Butterworths, 1994), Personal Property Securities in New Zealand (Brookers 2002) and Blanchard and Gedye's The Law of Private Receivers of Companies in New Zealand (LexisNexis 2008).
His main consulting interests are:
- in the field of personal property securities;
- in company receiverships and liquidations; and
- in the drafting and interpretation of standard form contracts and financial documents.
Before joining the Department of Commercial Law in 1991, Mike was the company secretary of a listed public company and a director of a number of its subsidiaries.
