SUSAN LAURENSON is Associate Dean, Academic Programmes & International in the University of Auckland Business School. As Associate Dean she advises on academic programmes including curriculum design and development, and quality assurance. She is responsible for the development and implementation of policies relating to undergraduate recruitment, admissions and enrolment, and academic advisory services for domestic and international students, and chairs the Board of Undergraduate Studies. She also coordinates accreditation and maintenance activities (EFMD EQUIS, AACSB International, AMBA, NZICA, CPA Australia, CIMA and ACCA) as well as overseeing the academic secretariat, and has oversight of the Student Development Office and the Business School Careers Centre. She was responsible for establishing the School’s Education Development Unit (EDU) and Language and Communication programme (LANCOM) and represented the School on the University’s Teaching and Learning Quality Committee in the periods 1997-2001 and 2005-2009.
As a member of the Business School’s Senior Management Team Susan has served on the Faculty Staffing Committee since 1998. Her membership on this committee has involved the review of academic appointments as well as well as the assessment of applications for continuation, research and study leave, and promotion.
Susan is currently a member of the University’s Education Committee, Academic Programmes Committee, International Committee and the Board of Studies for General Education. She has been involved in a range of University working groups and advisory committees including the Steering Group of a project to undertake a major upgrade of student administrative systems and services and a Reference Group implementing a new timetabling system. Susan serves as the Faculty of Business and Economics representative on Senate and is currently the University’s representative on the NZVCC Subcommittee on University Entrance.
Susan’s research interests are in international education policy issues, quality assurance and accreditation. She has attended a wide range of conferences on international policy, marketing and recruitment strategies, as well as international workshops on issues such as internationalization of the curriculum, facilitation of the mobility of staff and students, credential evaluation and credit transfer. She has represented the University across a wide range of international activities including the negotiation of inter-institutional linkages and agreements for the exchange of staff and students and collaboration in research. She served on the EFMD European Programme Accreditation System (EPAS) Committee from 2005 to 2011 and was recently appointed to the EFMD EPAS Accreditation Board. In this role she chairs a number of international peer review panels for EPAS annually.
Prior to becoming Associate Dean Susan lectured in the Department of Economics. She coordinated the first year Economics programme and developed curriculum and associated teaching and learning materials as well as developing and delivering a tutor development and training programme. Susan has co-authored a number of secondary school Economics textbooks.
Susan holds an MA(Hons), MCom(Hons) from The University of Auckland as well as a Diploma in Teaching.
